A practical 1-day workshop to define current and future states and design a Target Operating Model that enables transformation.

This practical one-day Target Operating Model workshop is designed for people involved in change and transformation who want to better understand how organisations can translate strategy into a clear and workable operating model. Participants will explore what a Target Operating Model (TOM) is, how it differs from strategy, and how it can act as the blueprint for an organisation’s vision by aligning operating capability with strategic objectives.

The workshop takes participants through the core components of a TOM and the process of moving from the current “as is” state to a clearly defined “to be” state. It examines the value a TOM can create by providing greater clarity around how an organisation needs to operate, and how its people, processes, technology, governance and ways of working can be better aligned to support strategy execution and transformation.

Facilitated by Caroline Mills and Tracey Penington, the program combines proven methodologies, practical tools, real-life case studies and insights drawn from extensive experience across change and transformation. The focus is highly practical and hands-on, helping participants move beyond theory to understand how a TOM can be created, applied and used to support more effective organisational transformation.

Delivered in an interactive learning environment, the workshop also creates opportunities for participants to share experiences, test ideas and learn from peers. Participants leave with a stronger understanding of how to develop and use a Target Operating Model as a practical transformation tool, supported by a TOM workbook, tools and templates that can be applied back in their organisation.

Key learning outcomes of this program include:

  • Define a Target Operating Model (TOM) and explain its purpose.
  • Understand the core components of an effective TOM.
  • Distinguish a Target Operating Model from organisational strategy and understand how the two connect.
  • Identify the business value and benefits of developing a TOM.
  • Apply a practical approach to assess the current state and design the desired future state.
  • Understand how a TOM provides the blueprint for transformation and strategy execution.
  • Recognise how aligning people, process, technology, governance and ways of working can improve organisational effectiveness.

All participants receive a certified Target Operating Model Workshop digital badge.
